Book review-Under The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

WOW that’s really all I can say. It’s taken me a few days to write this review; I had to let my thoughts sit and stew a bit on this book. Basically I loved everything about this book. Under the Never Sky has become one of my favorite books. Which surprise me because it’s not my normal reading material but I am glad I didn’t listen to my gut.

  Under the Never Sky Follows Aria who is a teenager that lives in the city of Reverie which is actually a pod type area. All citizens there wear Smarteyes that take them to different virtual realms. That is how they live their lives every day.  Never truly living life. Than one day Aria is forced out of the pod for a crime she didn’t commit. Life on the outside of these Pods is supposed to be a sure death making Aria feel she is going to die. Soon after she meets Perry an outsider who is trying to find his nephew. While neither really likes each other they decide to embark on an incredible journey together.  Along the way they may find the answers they are looking for and maybe they find something so unexpected in each other.

  This story pulled me in with the title and never let go till the last page. Aria and Perry’s journey was incredible and hopefully it has just begun. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. The world building was phenomenal. The characters were very likeable and believable. I’ve found with female leads in stories they tend to be so naive that it can make the story hard to read. With Aria there were a few moments I wanted to shake her but all in all she held her own.  I also enjoyed the romance it didn’t happen quickly, but it did happen at a nice pace where it seemed more realistic than a lot of the YA genre romances do these days.  Overall I loved this book. It was a pleasure to visit this world and characters. I will definitely be keeping my eyes out for book 2 in this series.

Book Review-The Pledge by Kimberly Derting

Where do I begin with this review? Well first off I will start by saying I had never read any books by Kimberly Derting before I read The Pledge and I didn’t completely hate it but I didn’t really love it either. It was just okay to me. I was so excited to read this book and I feel like it was a big letdown.

 The Pledge takes place in the country Ludania where people are separated into classes by the languages they speak. Each class has their own language. People of a lower class are not allowed to look a higher class in the eyes when they are speaking their language if they do they face immediate execution.  All classes however also speak Englaise. Charlie has a secret she can understand all languages. She has no idea why but she has been trying all her life to keep her secret. Then one night when she’s at a club with her friend Brooklyn she meets Max and there is instant attraction between the two. However Charlie hears Max speak in a language she has never heard before and almost blows her secret.  After that night while the threat of war begins to rage Charlie’s life starts to unravel and everything she holds dear will be put to the test as the answers about her secret unfolds

  While I liked the idea behind this story I didn’t feel the author executed it to its fullest potential.  The first half of this book seemed to drag for me.  It just went on and on, than the second half seemed rushed.  I was excited to finally be getting into the heart of the story when it was like whoa this is just going too fast. That was the only thing I didn’t like about this book it took too long to hook me then it threw me off with a quick shake. The characters were good even though I didn’t feel the attraction between Charlie and Max. I also loved the idea of the world where the classes all speak a different language. I will probably check out the next book in the series and hope that is better paced than the first.

Book Review-Dark Inside

I am really torn with this book. I tend to either love or hate a book, but with Dark Inside there were things I loved and there were things I hated. The Author left me scratching my head a bit because we as readers were given absolutely no answers as to what is going on. I understand that this is probably the first book of a series, but I felt we could have been given a little something, but we were given nothing at all. 
Dark Inside follows Aries, Clementine, Michael and Mason who are trying to survive in a world gone mad. It starts as any normal day would, but then there are devastating earthquakes all over the world and something is unleashed turning humans into killers. For these 4 teenagers they must learn how to survive and who they can trust. 
The premise’s for this story is really what dragged me in and in some aspects it didn’t disappoint. I really enjoyed the idea of the whole humans turning into killers and the end of the world as we know it concept. Like I said in the beginning of this review my main issue is we weren’t even given a breadcrumb of a hint as to what is going on. Another thing that bothered me with this story is it’s told from four POV’s. To me any more than two POV’s gets to be a bit much. It takes away from the story all the bouncing back and forth. Also I found myself backtracking a lot trying to figure out which character I was reading. I felt they really weren’t given their own personalities. When reading they all sounded the same. I also didn’t really like the POV that popped up off and on during the story called Nothing. I mean hopefully later in the series it is explained to us, but for me in this story it did absolutely nothing for me. 
Ok onto what I loved the nonstop action in this story really is what kept me entertained. Jeyn Roberts knows how to write good action scenes. I also liked how the 2 main female characters weren’t wimpy weaklings who needed a man to take care of them. They took care of themselves and in a few scenes kicked some butt. There really isn’t much in the way of romance in the story. There are little hints of romance but none of the instant oh I love him I can’t live without him that tends to be in young adult books today. 
Overall I liked this book but I wasn’t crazy about it. I will definitely read the next one just so hopefully I can get some answers. 

Incarnate-Jodi Meadows Book Review

This book was amazing. I couldn’t believe how great the world building was. The characters had substance to they weren’t flat like some books I have read. With the Dystopian-Utopian genre they tend to be hit or miss with me, but Incarnate was a big hit. I loved every second of the journey and felt I was right there battling sylph and dragons with Ana and Sam.

  Incarnate follows Ana on her journey to try and find out more about what happened when she was born 18 years before.  Ana was born a newsoul and for 1,000’s of years in Range when people are born there souls are reincarnated and they keep the memories from their past lives. When Ana was born another soul vanished and no one knows why. Her mother deems her a nosoul (an omen of bad things to come). The book starts out with Ana leaving home and heading to Heart hoping to find the answers she has longed for all her life. Along the way she meets Sam and he decides to try and help her. Once she arrives in Heart she finds that she really isn’t welcomed by all there. Yet Sam stays by her side and becomes her guardian of sorts and they begin the journey of trying to find out more of what happened when she was born, but some in Heart may not want her looking for those answers.

  There were so many things I enjoyed about this story. The idea of the souls being reincarnated and keeping their memories was a fantastic one. The action scenes were really well done.  The romance was also believable there was no boom I see him oh I love him like in a lot of young adult stories I have read lately. It was a gradual build up and it made it that much more sweet. Honestly I loved everything with this story the writing was very well done and the world building was great. This was one of those stories that when I finally sat down to read it I could not stop till the last page and it left me wanting more.  I can’t wait for the next book in this series to come out. It is definitely going on my to read list.

  I first wanted to say hi and let everyone know what this blog will be about. I read lots of great books and ok to be honest there is always a few not so great books. I have been reviewing books on Goodreads.com and decided that a blog would also help so I could share my opinions on the books I read with others. Hopefully they read the blog but they decide for themselves on these books. My desire is not to persuade people that my opinion is right on these books, but to give them a different opinion a 3rd party opinion of sorts.
